This week Ravensbourne hosted their ‘Class of 2017’ Graduation ceremonies at the iconic Barbican Centre, presenting both undergraduate and postgraduate degrees to School of Design and School of Media graduates.
The ceremonies were led by Ravensbourne’s deans and Board of Governors, as well as Councillor Peter Brooks, Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
The day’s proceedings began at 10.00am, with the School of Design ceremony. Students from both Ravensbourne’s undergraduate and postgraduate fashion, architecture and design courses received their degrees from Professor Lawrence Zeegen, Dean of the School of Design. During the ceremony, Dr Janthia Taylor was named ‘Honorary Professor’ for her contribution to Ravensbourne’s development, having worked at the institution from 1996 to 2017, serving as Deputy Director from 2007.
The second ceremony began at 2.00pm, seeing students from the School of Media being presented with their awards. Undergraduate students from Ravensbourne’s broadcast, photography, film, media, music and sound courses received their awards from Dr Gary Pritchard, Dean of the School of Media. Professor Jeremy Barr was named ‘Professor Emeritus’, having worked at Ravensbourne over a period spanning 40 years, serving as an associate dean for the Department of Production, and developing the first two-year honours degree as an accelerated course of academic study in the UK, in the field of emergent media.
Commenting, Professor Linda Drew, Director said: “Graduation is one of the most exciting times of year for us; it’s a fantastic opportunity to celebrate our students and their achievements. I’d like to wish all our amazing graduates the very best of luck as they explore new opportunities in the industries in which they’ve been studying.”
“Ravensbourne has a great track record for student employability, turning out graduates who go on to become the creative innovators of the future. Bearing this in mind, it’s important to highlight the alumni services we offer, including careers guidance, business support through our Incubation programme, as well as a range of opportunities for further study. Wherever your adventures might take you, remember you are always welcome back at Ravensbourne; we’d love to hear how you are getting on.”
