Ravensbourne’s fashion students shone at Graduate Fashion Week with two winning awards, 7 runners up and many others being shortlisted.

Nathalie Clarkson, BA (Hons) Fashion Promotion, won the Boohoo Social Media Award for the social media campaign around the development of her ethical multi-brand website, “Sourced”.

Her campaign surrounded Earth Day and encouraged young people to post their own activist Instagram posts using the hashtag  #Climatechangeisreal.

Elizabeth Bishop also on the BA (Hons) Fashion Promotion course won the Drapers Publication Award for the development of her brand “Eternal” which provides a community platform for women over the age of forty.

Fashion students were also profiled as “ones to watch” in prominent industry press such as Vogue, Hunger, Drapers and other magazines such as Marie Claire.

BA (Hons) Fashion Accessory Design student Ellen Brown recently had her collection profiled in Notion magazine.

She said: “My collection “Panopticon” was inspired by Brexit, and the feeling of being confined to the UK. I took a lot of inspiration from 1970s industrial action as well as contemporary forms of protest such as wearing a safety pin to show solidarity, which is reflected in the collection.”

“The course has really helped me learn different techniques and apply those techniques to my ideas. I’ve learnt a lot about the business aspect of fashion as well which has been invaluable.

Associate Dean of the Department of Fashion, Caroline Gilbey said: “The students have worked extremely hard and we’re all so proud of their success. We’re looking forward to seeing them graduate and seeing what they’ll go on to do next.”

Fashion student Grace Grier was recently awarded an internship with Burberry in a nationwide competition whilst fellow student Terry Cartwright-Foster won the British Fashion Council Award and from that success he then secured a position as designer at international clothing brand Stradivarius in Spain starting this month.
