Ravensbourne’s identity rebrand has won a Brand Impact Award in the education category for its consistent quality of concept, design and execution, led by NB Studio.
The Brand Impact Awards are an international awards scheme which celebrate creative excellence and consistency across branding design and were hosted at the Ham Yard Hotel London.
The rebrand was part of our ongoing aim to become a university with degree-awarding powers and marks a change from the previous architecture-inspired identity.
NB Studio were selected to create a brand identity that represented the image of a truly creative university. Students, staff and key external stakeholders were invited to be part of the creative process with NB Studio to share their experiences of Ravensbourne in order to ensure that the brand was inclusive, relevant and distinctive.
NB Studio produced a dynamic identity system which features a simple black and white motif which opens to become a flexible framing device. The frame can be resized and reinterpreted to showcase a variety of Ravensbourne created content including imagery, words and moving image. The new design also includes a bold bespoke typeface developed by typographer Kostas Bartsokas to complement the form and flexibility of the new identity.
Professor Linda Drew Director at Ravensbourne said: “We are so proud that our new brand identity has won an international award, it reinforces our belief that we are moving in the right direction. Our students, staff and our key partners are very much a part of this success.
“It was extremely important to choose the right design agency as we take steps toward university status, and I feel that NB Studio have exceeded our expectations.”
Nick Finney Co-founder and Creative Director at NB Studio said, “We are honoured to receive this award for the design of Ravensbourne’s new brand. It was a fascinating project and we thoroughly enjoyed working closely with the staff and students.
“We may have designed the system but it’s an identity that invites collaboration allowing Ravensbourne to celebrate the creative work that its creative community produces.”
