Ravensbourne assisted with the launch of the new Tate Modern on Friday (17 June), after becoming the only higher education institution to be selected to VJ (project images to music) in the Turbine Hall.

Students from pre-foundation, foundation and undergraduate graphic design courses were asked to provide visuals on the theme of “future creativity” for a one hour music set to encourage young people from 18 - 24 years old to engage with the arts.

The event was part of a three day celebration to mark the opening of the new Tate Modern building, Switch House. In addition to the music set, a range of interactive activities and installations with emerging artists and creatives encompassing digital technology with lo-fi materials was on display.

Associate Dean James Ward said: “It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to be part of such a prestigious event.

“This particular opportunity enhanced Ravensbourne’s culture of progression from foundation to undergraduate level. I hope this will be one of many more collaborations with Tate.”

Student Rowha Mohid added: “The Tate Modern experience was great as it required working as part of a team on a live project. I loved seeing people’s reactions to the finished result.”

Ravensbourne graphic design alumni Chiamaka Ojechi and Joshua Allen also spoke at a lecture on future creativity. The talk covered their work since graduating from Ravensbourne, current projects and future plans which offered an insight into creating opportunities.
