Congratulations to BA (Hons) Design Products students Alexandra Epiphaniou, Saima Khanom and Lewis Calderwood who successfully snapped up the live project with Spectral Lighting and to the commended students Bradley Humphrey, Stefan Benson and Shirley Lao.
The students, all in level 2, worked with Jon Estell from Spectral lighting to create contemporary lighting fixtures that would be appropriate in both form and lighting function for a commercial environment.
The winners have been given the opportunity to have their work exhibited at Surface Design Show 2016 in London, as part of the Spectral Lighting stand. The Surface Design Show is a popular event for architects, interior architects, lighting designers and designers, providing the opportunity to engage with a targeted audience and to generate new business.
Alexandra Epiphaniou described the project as ‘the most interesting and challenging project we had so far. I learnt a lot about ways of manufacturing and how I have to adapt my designs in order to fit these ways. I was really happy to be one of the winners because this is a great opportunity that we were given, to be part of the Surface Design show.’
‘This project illustrates the unique opportunities available to all young designers at Ravensbourne. A successful designer must be able to convince project stakeholders about their design vision and intent. Live projects such as this experience with Spectral Lighting enable our students to gain a real insight into this reality,’ said Nadine Bennet, associate senior lecturer BA (Hons) Design Products.
