Othello De'Souza-Hartley, who is one of the Further Education sessional photography tutors at Ravensbourne, was commissioned by the Southbank Centre to set up a 'pop up studio' for the Africa Utopia Festival on Sunday, 13 September 2015.
The festival looked at what can be learnt and celebrated from Africa and the African Diaspora. Othello’s African Portrait studio photography draws from influences of West African photographers in the 60's such as Malick Sidibe and Seydou Keita. The event ran between 10-13 September 2015.
Othello De'Souza-Hartley is a London-based visual artist working with photography and film. Inspired by the mood and psychological themes of classical painting, his unique approach to composition, light and gaze combines to unveil the inner workings of his subjects.
