The Animation Lab is located on the ground floor of CAVE by the workshops. The lab consists of 17 PCs, 15 high end graphics workstations and 2 scanning stations complete with auto feeding scanners. Students can use the graphics workstations to create and manipulate 3D scenes using applications such as Alias Maya, and discreet 3ds max. It is also possible to work with 2D images using the likes of Adobe Photoshop. Post production work can be realised through the likes of Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro. The scanning stations do not have the processing power of the workstations or access to the more resource demanding programs. But, they are useful in the production of 2D animated films because of their high-speed, ADF scanners.
The Animation Lab is bookable for teaching between 09.00 and 16.00 on Monday to Friday. At all other times it is an open access resource.
If this resource is busy, why not try Green ICT, Blue ICT, Purple ICT, or the Emerald Lab? Aside from the 2D animation software and scanners each of these resources is identically equipped to Animation Production.
