ICT Resources and Services

ICT resources and services are centrally managed and supported computer facilities and networking. You can find out about the ICT resources available for teaching and learning on this page. You can also find out how the resources are planned and managed.

For desktop computer resources, there are two kinds of physical ICT resources: teaching resources and production resources. Often these resources are quite similar in appearance and configuration, but they are different in usage.

  • A teaching resource main use is for tutor-supervised sessions. Teaching has priority in these resources, and if you are using the resource without a booking, you are expected to move if asked.
  • Production resources are open access, and though they may be booked for teaching from time to time, they are generally for drop-in student use.

Also available for student loan from the CLR are:

  • 30 'fully loaded' Macbook Pros
  • 10 Wacom tablets

In addition, ICT provides two network access services for user-owned equipment.

  • CAMPUS is a site-wide service offering wireless and wired access to the Ravensbourne network. Users are authenticated to this service using 802.1x TTLS. Please check with your hardware/software vendor to see if this is supported. For wireless access, join the wireless network with the SSID "CAMPUS". For wired access, look out for network ports marked with a blue dot. Contact ICT via the service desk if you need help. Network cables can be bought at the college shop.
  • X-LAN is an experimental network for student projects. Access to X-LAN is by arrangement. Please contact ICT via the service desk for more information.

ICT also provides some specialised, cross-college resources such as a render farm, a video-storage SAN and transcoding service, and a College-wide presentation network (miniNet).

LeaF Equipped Resources

Many of our resources are LeaF equipped - which means they have facilities such as smart-whiteboards, projectors, screens, DVD, video, and audio playback facilities. You can identify the LeaF equipped resources because they have the LeaF logo: LeaF.

Staff Computing

ICT is also responsible for providing academic and administrative staff computing. If you are interested in learning about this service, please see the staff computing page.

Using the Resources

We appreciate your considerate use of the resources, and thank you for:

  • Using headphones whilst listening to music or watching movies or DVDs;
  • Eating and drinking outside the computer resources;
  • Putting your rubbish in the bins provided;
  • Putting your contact details on the board if your must leave a machine locked.
