Teaching for Inclusivity -under construction
An introduction from Trevor Gordon – College Governor and Chair of the Diversity Committee
You can’t really practice equal opportunities until you understand and accept people’s differences, when you do this then you are practising diversity and can ensure equality of opportunity.
In the past six years the College has made tremendous progress in it’s approach to equality and diversity – we have gone beyond compliance with legal obligations in the employment of staff, and the services to students, to do what is morally right. The College practices fairness.
The priorities for the Diversity Committee are to continue to promote and raise awareness and understanding of race, gender, sexuality and disability amongst College staff and students. The continued provision of information, training and the development of fair policy and practice is central to that.
This Diversity and Equality intranet site provides information on key activities, practices and policies that will ensure equality of opportunity for our current staff and students, and we hope encourage a diverse range of people to come to work and study at the College in the future.
Trevor is an active consultant and practitioner in the area of diversity and equal opportunities. He was awarded honorary lifetime membership of the Institute of Welfare for his commitment to Diversity and Equality, and also received the 2002 Stephen Lawrence award for education.
