BA (Hons) Architecture and Interior Design and Environment Architectures (IDEA) students took part in the House of Phoenix competition in collaboration with Phoenix Publishing and Media Group (PPMG) a leading enterprise in the publishing and distribution industry in China.
The students were asked to design an installation to be hung within The House of Phoenix in London, a cultural complex launched by PPMG, located in Greenwich.
The students’ designs were judged and first prize was awarded to Ceyda Tezbasar, for her contemporary installation which explores the history of Chinese paper-making and culture and British culture combined. Second prize was awarded to Shpend Pashtriku followed by Trung Tran who was awarded third prize. The judges were so impressed by the outstanding quality of Ceyda’s work that the first prize award increased from £600 to £1000!
Ceyda said: “My installation takes the form of the chinese dragon, a symbol of perseverance, courage, wisdom and excellence, with hopes to inspire the values of the dragon through knowledge and literature. Using paper to create the installation allowed House of Phoenix to be reflected through the design, whilst keeping to Chinese paper-making history.
“The project was a great experience and I am very pleased to have been able to have this opportunity.”
Baizhou Cai, Lecturer at Ravensbourne said: “I would like to thank and congratulate all students who took part in this live project competition.
